Identification and special testing conditions

On the day of your VST you will be required to show one form of photo-bearing identification.

The only acceptable form of identification is listed below.

  • Current photo-bearing drivers licence (Learner Permit, probationary, or full licence)
  • Passport

The photograph in your identification document must be recognisable as a likeness to you as you will appear on the day of the test. No other forms of identification will be accepted.

If you do not have the approved form of identification, please allow enough time to organise one before the test date. You will not be able to enter the VST centre without an approved form of identification. Some of these identification documents can take approximately a month to obtain.

Student cards and/or documents that have expired will not be accepted under any circumstances. Photocopies of identity documents are also not acceptable forms of identification.

The date of birth, and given name and surname on your identification must match those listed on your Admission Ticket details.

If you do not present the approved identification document, together with your printed Admission Ticket, you will not be able to sit the VST and your registration fee will be forfeited.

If for any reason you cannot provide your photo identification on the test day (e.g. because of a lost wallet) you must provide a signed statutory declaration confirming your identity.

You must also provide (by email to or by mail) a certified copy of your Driver Licence to the ACER Office no later than five (5) business days after your allocated test sitting. Failure to do so may result in results being withheld.

Special testing conditions

ACER will make alternative testing arrangements subject to approval from the Fire Service. All applicants wishing to apply for special testing consideration should contact theFire Service recruitment office to discuss their needs. The Fire Services will work with ACER to ensure equitable testing arrangements are made where appropriate.
